Le 6 juin 2012 (le 6 du 6 pour un clin d'oeil avec le chiffre 6 d'IPv6), c'est le lancement mondial d'IPv6 "World V6 Launch" (http://www.worldipv6launch.org ), un jalon dans l'histoire de l'Internet. En ce jour, de nombreux fournisseurs d'accès Internet à travers le monde et les fournisseurs de contenu (par exemple Google, YouTube, Facebook, Yahoo ! ...) rendront leur contenu disponible via le nouveau protocole (IPv6) ; il sera évidemment toujours disponible via la version actuelle, Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4).
